I love a good bar snack. They really are a simple perfect appetizer whether you are out or entertaining at home. I always have them on hand at home for impromptu guests, dinners, parties and just because. Spiced nuts are my fav of the bar snacks, so easy to make, customizable for whatever flavor you are in the mood for and stores well. I chose a za’atar spice mix to fit my theme. I was having a Croatian planning party and I wanted some Mediterranean inspired dishes, and this was the perfect snack to wet our palates! You’ll never buy pre-made again!
So, this is a big birthday year for me and a lot of my friends. I have always been known for really celebrating my birthday (birthday month), but this year I am really going to do it up! A lot of bday presents to myself this year. One of the biggies is we are going to Croatia! I love to travel and try to do an international trip at least every other year, but since this is a big bday, I am going back to back years! A good thing one of my travel buddies has the same big day this year too so we will be celebrating together! Any who, so that is what inspired the latest flavor combo. I love making my own spiced nuts, so much healthier, you are in control of everything that goes into them and they are so customizable. For this version, I used almonds, pecans and cashews and for the spice blend, za’atar seasoning, cinnamon, cardamom, and all spice! Then for a hint of sweet, used my all-time fav natural sweetener, D’Vash Date Nectar. Comes together so quickly and tastes amazing! Warning though, they are addictive, you will be channeling all your self-control to stop snacking and save some for the guests! The egg white and D’Vash Date Nectar make the perfect glue for those yummy spices to stick to the nuts.
Just spread evenly over baking sheet and pop in the oven!
Fresh out of the oven all toasty and dried with those delicious spices coating them beautifully!
I’m in love with these ceramic French fry holders! Not like in love in love, that would be weird 🙂 but love them for my entertaining needs! Not just for French fries obvi! They are great for nuts, veggies, candy, candied bacon (which will be on my brunch table on Sunday). You get it, they hold a lot of stuff and look good doing it!
These spiced nuts also make great take home gifts/favors for your guests! Just package them up in little jars or favor bags and Bob’s Your Uncle! Edible favors, my fav!!
No need to be traveling to Croatia to enjoy! These are a great addition to your Mother’s Day brunch spread! So, grab your nuts, mix your spices and bar snack it up this weekend with Mom! Happy Mother’s Day Weekending! Diane
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 1 egg white
- 3 tbsp. date nectar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 tsp. Za'atar
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. cardamom
- ¼ tsp. all spice
- ⅛ tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the egg white with date nectar and whisk to combine.
- In a small bowl, combine all the spices and mix.
- Add the nuts to the bowl with egg white and date nectar and stir until all the nuts are coated. Add the spices in a few batches mixing so that all the nuts get evenly spiced.
- Pour the nuts on the prepared baking sheet and spread out evenly.
- Bake for 15 minutes then toss the nuts and bake for an additional 8 to 12 minutes until the nuts are golden, toasted and dried.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on rack. Place cooled nuts in airtight container at room temperature for up to a few weeks (they won't last that long before you eat!)
- Enjoy
