These caramel and chocolate dipped pretzel rods are the bee’s knees! Yes, I said the bee’s knees, I’m going to bring back that saying! Along with the cat’s whiskers, or the cat’s pajamas and wise guy. Should have never gone out of style! Any who, bee’s knees (and everything else I said, minus wise guy), pretzels, caramel and chocolate. Um yes. Salty sweet perfection! They are easy to make and pretty for your next party as favors, or perfect this time of year for homemade gifts.Ok, let’s get dipping! For these, I use the Kraft caramel squares, super quick and easy. Plus, they firm up more than the homemade, which you need for these. I used the whole bag, just unwrap, drop into your medium sauce pan, throw two tablespoons of water in and melt those suckers down. Keep an eye on it though, you don’t want them to burn. Line the counter with some parchment paper.
Once your caramel cubes are completely melted and smooth, I transferred into a glass for easy dipping, like the one below. You could also just keep in the pot and spoon the caramel over the pretzel rods. Next, place the caramel coated pretzels on the parchment paper to set. Let the caramel set for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Now you want to melt your coating chocolate. I used dark chocolate and white chocolate. For the dark chocolate I used Merckens melting wafers and for the white chocolate I used this brand, Candiquik. I have the most luck with this brand for white chocolate, it melts really smooth, and creates a nice coating. Again, I melted the chocolate in large taller mugs for dipping, nice and easy. You will then transfer the chocolate dipped pretzels back to the parchment paper to set. Allow these to set for at least 10 minutes before you add your drizzles.
For the drizzle decorations, I melted some more chocolate and placed it in a small piping bag and just lightly drizzled back and forth over the coated pretzel. Let them set completely at room temperature. Once set, I like to wrap them in plastic wrap and then put in a large zip lock bag for storage.
Now you are ready to gift these or package them up for pretty favors for your guests! Yes, you can buy pretzel rod favor bags! Mine are Wilton, this link will take you there.
