Cinnamon, Cardamom, Almond Butter Powder Breakfast Smoothie is my smoothie dream come true. What, you don’t have smoothie dreams? 😊 This smoothie drinks like a shake! Your taste buds will not know the difference. No added sweeteners or artificial anything. Just pure simple ingredients; banana, dates, pineapple, avocado, almond powder and combo coconut and almond milk with a boost of collagen mixed in (I use Vital Proteins)! It’s smooth, creamy, thick and dreamy!
I was never much of a smoothie fan; I typically need to eat solid foods for my meals and snacks. Plus, a lot of the smoothie’s out there are filled with loads of hidden sweeteners and things your body just doesn’t really need. That is until I created my own smoothie at home where I controlled everything that went into and didn’t go into my smoothie. It was a game changer, or shall I say smoothie changer!
Now, I don’t make them every day, I do still typically prefer to chew my breakfast or meal. However, once or twice a week is a nice way to mix things up or shall I say blend things up…😊 Any who, I had been away for part of the week before for work/vacay combo. While I am on vacation, I eat out every night and drink more wine than I do at home. So, when I get back home and back into my routine, I like to re-set a bit and make sure I eat and drink clean (until next weekend 😉)!
I was in Portland, Oregon for the weekend with some friends and had a great time. We still did healthy outdoor things like hiking a 5 ½ (should have been 5, but I’ll get into that) mile loop up Multnomah Falls along the Columbia River Gorge. It was a great and good workout and gorgeous! Although, I am not a fan of un-even trails with a narrow path with my death looming just to the right of me with one false move! I may be exaggerating a tad, but parts of the trail were a bit too narrow for my liking. And we only got lost once with me repeatedly saying to my sister, “I don’t think this is the trail, are we going the right way?” and her repeatedly replying angrily, “This is the right way and the only trail!”. Well, it was not. Good thing it basically hit a dead-end beyond a bridge. Although, my friend and I thought my sister was going to forge ahead convinced we were the wrong ones. We stood back and yelled out, “we’ll send the search party when we get back”! Ha-ha, luckily, she realized there was no trail to forge that way and followed us back the way we came until we came upon the actual trail. Onward and upward!
Welp, we made it up around the beautiful falls with nary a bruise on us! Just some sore legs and gluteus maximums the next day! However, I did make it up and down the side of a mountain without injury, but almost killed myself with a slip in the shower! With no Life Alert in reach! I obvi lived to tell that tale too, phew! Anyway, I like to stay active on vacay, but then we go out and enjoy a nice dinner and glass or two or three of wine each night! So, it feels good to get back home and back on track!
Enter this smoothie. You don’t just have to save this baby for breakfast either. If you are feeling like a delicious, nutritious smoothie for lunch, you got it. Post workout recovery? Go right ahead! It’s filling without being too thick, but just the right consistency and viscosity with just the right amount of natural sweet from the combo of the dates, bananas and pineapple without being cloying!
Just dump your ingredients in your blender, easy peasy!

Diane
- 1 cup almond milk
- ½ cup lite coconut milk in a can
- 2 pitted dates
- 2 tbsp. Barney's Almond Powder
- ½ a banana (fresh or frozen)
- ⅓ cup frozen pineapple
- ⅓ of a small avocado
- 1 scoop Vital Proteins Collagen (optional)
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. cardamom
- ½ tsp. vanilla extract (optional)
- In a high-speed blender (regular if you don't have) add the dates (soften in hot water in the microwave for 20 seconds if using regular blender), banana, avocado, almond powder, pineapple, cinnamon, cardamom, salt.
- In a measure cup, mix the almond and coconut milk together, stir in the collagen powder if using and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour over the other ingredients in the blender.
- Blend on medium for about 30 to 45 seconds, turn up to high and blend until smooth and creamy for another 60 to 90 seconds. If you like a thinner consistency, add more almond or coconut milk until you get desired thickness. You can also add some ice cubes (will dilute the flavor some) as well for more slushy like. I like without. I prefer a shake like texture.
- Pour into large glass, garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and cardamom.
- Enjoy!
